Rhyme Consulting is led by Laura Morarity.
Laura Morarity is a senior marketing and communications executive with more than 20 years of experience guiding companies through times of pivotal change, including business model shifts, executive transitions, and crisis communications. A creative storyteller by trade, she focuses on supporting mid-to-late stage technology startups by helping them define and tell their story to all the stakeholders that matter.
Currently, Laura offers fractional CMO services to Series A or later startups, serving as a critical advisor for CEOs and leadership teams on branding, reputation, and corporate positioning. She has held marketing and communications leadership roles at pre-IPO global and domestic companies and has deep expertise in the intricacies of marketing and positioning those companies to prepare them for the public markets.
In 2018, she led communications for home sound system company Sonos (Nasdaq: SONO) during its IPO, establishing a new CEO’s vision in the market and crafting a compelling corporate narrative. But to take it to the next level, Laura’s team permanently redesigned the Nasdaq bell, which won a prestigious Bronze Cannes Lion for public relations and was named one of AdAge’s best digital campaigns of 2018. In 2022, Laura led marketing and communications strategy for cannabis marketplace Leafly’s SPAC. In addition, she’s led private market fundraising communications for legal marketplace Avvo’s Series E while serving as the company’s VP of brand marketing and communications, and has supported M&A, acquihires, and divestitures for a variety of technology companies through her consulting work over the years.
In addition, Laura served as SVP of Marketing & Communications at cannabis marketplace Leafly for nearly 4 years where she led marketing efforts that delivered the industry’s highest legal retailer market penetration at 55% and an industry-leading consumer audience of more than 8.2MM MAU. She led the development of the company’s world-class thought leadership program which has been cited by the media, within congressional bills, and by the CDC. She navigated the high-stakes world of big tech competition as the global communications leader at home sound system company Sonos, where she established the company’s first sustainability program and delivered a number of high profile product and partnership launches with companies including IKEA, Google, and Amazon.
Laura started her career in public relations agencies serving a variety of technology and CPG companies with their communications needs, growing her career from an entry level professional to the deputy GM of a global agency office.
She received her bachelor’s degree in print journalism from Murray State University and her master’s degree in communications from the University of Kentucky. She lives in Seattle with her husband and son, and reads all the fiction she can get. After all, the best way to learn to tell great stories is to read the masters.
Work Philosophy
Marketing and communications needs to be no nonsense and practical to drive businesses forward.
What to know about how I work:
Telling great stories is what I do first and best. And a great story told through in a variety of channels (owned, earned and paid) is the best way to attract new customers, investors and employees.
My client relationships are built on honesty, transparency, and a commitment to always do the right thing, even when it’s hard or uncomfortable.
Excellence is the bar. If I don’t believe I can deliver excellent work for your project, I’ll refer you to someone who has the skills you need to succeed.
Clear work scopes and fees on a project or retainer basis make budgeting simple and eliminate ambiguity.
